Misguidance is not from the mind but most often from following the heart. Guidance does not rest with the heart alone but actually finds its way into the heart through the mind. Through knowledge and understanding.
When we follow our emotions we can like something which is bad for us. We can do things that God does not tell us to do. In other words, we can fall into innovations in our religion. Those innovations can be silly or deadly. Those who celebrate the birthday of Muhammad are following a silly innovation. Those who support terrorism are following a deadly innovation. In both cases, it is the emotions which have lead the people astray. The mind and sound knowledge of Islam are what is needed for proper guidance; proper attitudes and proper actions.
